Terms of Service
Version 1.0 · Effective 20 May 2026
These Terms govern your use of software published by Kriovate Ltd. At present, that means the Krypsis iOS application. If we publish additional products in the future, these Terms will be updated to cover them, or we will publish product-specific terms.
⚠️ Read this first — data loss warning
If you forget your PIN and have not created an encrypted backup, your Krypsis vault contents cannot be recovered. Kriovate Ltd has no ability to access, reset, or restore your data.
This is the trade-off for true end-to-end encryption: only you have the key. We designed Krypsis so we can’t bypass it — not for ourselves, not for governments, not for anyone with a court order. The mathematics make it impossible.
Please use Settings → Backup inside Krypsis to create an encrypted backup file, and keep the backup file and your PIN somewhere safe (a password manager, a separate physical location, both).
If this trade-off doesn’t work for you, please don’t use Krypsis.
1. Who we are, and what these terms cover
Kriovate Ltd is a company registered in England & Wales (Company No. [COMPANY NUMBER], registered office 167-169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London W1W 5PF).
These terms (“Terms”) govern your use of Krypsis, including the free tier, Lifetime purchase, and any future Premium Sync subscription. By installing or using Krypsis, you accept these Terms.
If you don’t accept them, please delete the app.
2. Your “account”
Krypsis has no user account. There’s no signup, no email, no password, no profile, no server-side state.
Access to your vault is gated by a PIN that is stored only on your device. We don’t know who you are, we can’t reset your PIN, and we can’t recover your vault for you. See Section 3.
3. The PIN and the consequences of losing it
When you set up Krypsis, you choose a PIN. The app derives an encryption key from that PIN and uses it to encrypt everything in your vault. We never see your PIN, and we don’t store it.
If you lose your PIN:
- You will not be able to unlock your vault.
- We cannot reset your PIN. There is no “Forgot PIN” recovery flow because there is no recovery path that would not also create a backdoor.
- If you have a
.vaultbakbackup file AND remember the PIN you used at backup time, you can restore from that backup. - If you have no backup or no remembered PIN, your vault contents are permanently lost.
You can create backups in Settings → Backup. Backups are free on every tier.
4. Acceptable use
You may use Krypsis for personal and lawful purposes. You may NOT use it to:
- Store, transmit, or distribute content that is illegal where you live or where Kriovate Ltd operates (England & Wales). In particular:
- No child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Apple and UK/EU/US law treat this as a hard line; so do we.
- No content infringing third-party intellectual property
- No content used to plan, commit, or further fraud, terrorism, or other serious criminal offences
- Attempt to compromise other users’ devices, the App Store, or Kriovate’s infrastructure
- Reverse-engineer the app to extract cryptographic secrets or bypass purchase entitlements (other than for the personal-research and interoperability purposes permitted by applicable copyright law)
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the app
You are solely responsible for the content you store. Because we cannot see your content (see Privacy Policy Section 3), we cannot proactively moderate it. Storing illegal content is illegal regardless of where it is stored or how it is encrypted, and we will cooperate with lawful requests from competent authorities to the extent we are able — which, in practice, is limited to confirming whether an Apple Account holds a Lifetime entitlement, since that is the only Krypsis-related data we hold tied to identifiable customers.
5. Pricing, subscriptions, and refunds
5.1 Free tier
Krypsis is free to install and use within the limits shown on the paywall (currently 300 photos, 20 videos, 10 documents). Backup, restore, biometric unlock, and the decoy vault are included on the free tier.
5.2 Lifetime (one-time purchase)
A one-time payment unlocks unlimited storage on this device forever, plus all current and future local features. Lifetime is tied to your Apple Account — it follows you across devices logged into the same Apple Account.
Lifetime does NOT include iCloud sync. Sync is part of the Premium Sync subscription (Section 5.3).
The price shown in-app at the time of purchase is the price you pay. We may change Lifetime pricing for new purchases in the future; existing Lifetime owners are not affected.
5.3 Premium Sync — coming soon
A future subscription will add iCloud sync between your devices. Indicative pricing: £3.99 per month or £29.99 per year. Final pricing will be confirmed in-app at the time of subscription.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. To cancel, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iOS device.
5.4 Refunds
All refunds are handled by Apple, not by Kriovate. Apple’s standard 14-day refund window applies in the EU and UK; outside those regions, Apple’s discretion applies. Request a refund via https://reportaproblem.apple.com.
Kriovate Ltd does not process refunds directly because we never receive your payment — Apple does.
5.5 Promotions and offers
We may run launch promotions, regional discounts, or family-pricing offers in the future. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay; we don’t use deceptive countdown timers, manufactured urgency, or dark patterns. See our public commitments at kriovate.com/about.
6. App availability, updates, and discontinuation
6.1 Updates
We may update, add, or remove features in future releases. Material changes will be flagged in the App Store “What’s New” notes and, where they affect your stored data, an in-app migration prompt.
6.2 Discontinuation
If Kriovate Ltd ever discontinues Krypsis, we commit to:
- Pushing a final release that lets you export your full vault to a
.vaultbakbackup file and individual items to the iOS Photos library - Leaving that final release on the App Store for as long as Apple permits
- Publishing standalone documentation on how to decrypt
.vaultbakfiles independently, so your data is never trapped behind a defunct app
7. No warranty
Krypsis is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We don’t guarantee that the app is uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any specific purpose, and we don’t guarantee that your data will never be lost. That’s why we provide the backup feature and why the data loss warning at the top of this document is the first thing you see.
This section does not exclude any warranty that cannot lawfully be excluded under English law — in particular your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kriovate Ltd’s total cumulative liability arising out of or in connection with your use of Krypsis is limited to the greater of:
- The amount you have paid Kriovate (via Apple) in the twelve months prior to the event giving rise to the claim, or
- £50
If you’re a free-tier user, this means our liability is capped at £50.
We are not liable for:
- Loss of data due to forgotten PIN, lost backup, device theft, device failure, or any other cause where the data was never under our control
- Loss of data due to your use of third-party software (jailbreak tools, file managers, backup-restore utilities) that interferes with Krypsis
- Indirect, consequential, special, or incidental damages
- Loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or business opportunities
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for:
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Death or personal injury caused by negligence
- Any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under English law
9. Termination
You can stop using Krypsis at any time by deleting it from your device. All vault content stays encrypted and inaccessible without your PIN; deleting the app wipes the encrypted vault.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms (in practice, this is largely theoretical — we have no server-side switch, so “termination” by us would only affect future purchases on your Apple Account). Where suspension or termination is technically meaningful, we’ll notify you via the in-app notice mechanism before acting where reasonably possible.
Termination doesn’t refund any prior purchases; refunds are Apple’s process (Section 5.4).
10. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Disputes will be resolved exclusively by the courts of England and Wales, unless you’re a consumer resident in another EU member state, in which case you may also bring claims in the courts of your country of residence and rely on mandatory consumer protections that apply there.
Before going to court, please email support@kriovate.com. We’d rather fix the problem than litigate, and most disputes resolve faster that way.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The current version and effective date are at the top of this document. Material changes will be flagged in an in-app notice on next launch, and the previous version will remain available at the published URL for reference.
Your continued use of Krypsis after the effective date of an updated version constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you don’t accept them, please delete the app.
12. Severability and entire agreement
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable by a court, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the complete agreement between you and Kriovate Ltd in relation to Krypsis.
